End of the School Year

Matthew's last few weeks of school have been very busy.  I am so not ready for him to be out of 1st grade, 2nd grade sounds so much older and I'm not quite ready for that.
Last Thursday he had a class field trip to the Field Museum because they had been studying dinosaurs.  Nine was kind enough to come watch the other 3 so I could go.

On Friday the 1st graders walked to the park and had a picnic.
The 1st grade teachers made shirts for the kids and then they had all their friends sign them, it was pretty cute.

Families were invited to the picnic as well, so we had a good time too.  Matthew and Logan

 At the picnic
It was pretty funny watching them sign each other's shirts.
Max was fascinated with the hula hoop

Matthew had two big projects due in May.  The first was a Dinosaur research project.  He had to think of a question, research the answer, create a visual, and write a research paper.  He wanted to do a diorama, it looked pretty awesome.
His last project was an author study.  He picked his favorite author, did some research on him, created a visual, a research paper, and this part involved a presentation for his grade too.  He pretended he was the author Dav Pilkey and gave his report as if Dav was talking.  Ms. Senn asked him to come back next year to present it to her first graders.
 Awards day

The lunch mom gave one kid in each class an award and a $5.00 McDonalds gift card for being well behaved and a good example all year at lunch.

Look how little he looks at the beginning of the year.  This one made me cry, I was never so emotional until I had these 3 munchkins.

I don't know where he gets this from.

Ms. Senn gave out paper plate awards on the last day and Matthew received this one, which is pretty darn fitting.

I loved his teacher and I think I will miss her as much as he does.  She is just the best person and what you would want a 1st grade teacher to be.  She actually went to this school when she was little too.

His final report card comments from Ms. Senn.  He had a great report card and is reading at at least a mid 3rd grade level, they stopped testing him.
Best Buddies on the playground for one last time as 1st graders.  We played after school everyday that we could, the 1st grade door was right by the playground.
